Crop protection in the agronomic seed market

The agronomic market is a specific market in which huge volumes of seed are produced.

The agricultural sector is accustomed to using relative large amounts of crop protection compounds to protect their valuable crops against diseases.

The crop protection industry is focussing more and more on crop protection compounds to be applied by seed treatment. The advantage of these seed treatment applied crop protection compounds is that by being applied on the seed directly only a fraction of the normal applied crop protection compound volume is used per hectare.

The use of crop protection compounds through seed treatment is much more efficient and effective. In some cases only 0,1 – 1% of the normally used dosage of crop protection compounds by foliar application is as effective when used through seed treatment.

The traditional slurry treatment method

Depending on the geographical market and development stage of the seed companies and farmers the basic way of seed treatment was done simply by adding the crop protection compounds in water and then apply this mix as a slurry treatment on the seed. This method is very simple, not expensive and can be done quickly resulting in relative low costs per kg of seed.

A less positive aspect however is that the water being used as a carrier of the crop protection compounds can evaporate usually resulting in very dusty seed as the crop protection compound turns into powder again. This powder dust can be inhaled by people handling the seed and could become harmful to our environment.

Another disadvantage can be that in some cases a part of the crop protection compounds can be lost as it stays behind in the seed package or sowing equipment resulting in a possible less effective protection of the seed and seedling.

The traditional way to compensate this loss is to give an over dosage of the crop protection compounds during the seed treatment.

The new DiscoAg film coating liquids

In the last 5–10 years enormous research efforts have been made by the crop protection companies to develop new systemic insecticides and fungicides which are much more effective in seed and plant protection. To give an optimal protection even more attention must be given to the way the seed treatment compounds are applied on the seed. The traditional low cost slurry treatment is less efficient and is giving loss of expensive seed treatment compounds.

To be your partner Incotec has gained a great deal of experience with various seed species and their physiological behavior over the years. This, combined with our extensive knowledge of coating components and our understanding of most crop protectants, has allowed us to develop a complete range of filmcoat liquid specially adapted to the agronomic market under the name of "Disco Ag".

These Disco Ag filmcoat liquids contain binders, color pigments and flow agents and are developed to replace the traditional slurry treatment. The advantage of these Disco Ag filmcoat liquids is that the seed treatment compounds are mixed with the Disco Ag and then added on the seed. In this way the crop protection compounds are bound to the seed, making the seed dust free. Another advantage is that the crop protection compounds are used very efficient and effective resulting in a better seed and crop protection.

The DiscoAg product line

The Disco Ag range has been carefully developed and selected in such way that it can be virtually used with all seed treatment compounds and application equipment. If a new seed treatment compound is introduced in the market Incotec will always test the compatibility of our Disco Ag with this new crop protection compound.

The Disco Ag range is developed for agronomic crops where a low cost price is very important. We have spend much time in selecting the best flow agents which assure a good spreading of the crop protection compound around the seed surface and the very good binding power of the binders used make sure the crop protection compounds are securely bound to the seed.

The standard Disco Ag is available in Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, Black, White, Pearl and Transparent.

The Disco Ag Special range has an extreme high binding power but has the same color intensity as the standard Disco Ag range.

If you have any special wishes concerning for example the release of the crop protection compound, color intensity, company image, we can develop a tailor-made new Disco Ag adapted to your wishes.

We invite you to order a free of charge sample of our unique Disco Ag Filmcoat liquids. You will be surprised how easy to handle they are, the effectiveness they have on binding the crop protection compounds to the seed, and how easy to clean your seed treatment equipment afterwards will be.
