AgraQuest's biofungicide, Serenade, was granted registration
by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for four more uses.
Serenade(R) can now be used on blueberries, greenhouse
vegetables, green beans and mint, in addition to the already
registered uses on vines, melons, squash, hops, peanuts, leafy
vegetables, potatoes, peppers, tomatoes, cherries, apples, pears
and walnuts. "AgraQuest is excited to offer new disease
management technology to more producers," says Jim Chambers,
Director of Sales and Marketing, "especially since they are
losing traditional tools due to the restrictions imposed by
implementation of the Food Quality Protection Act."
Serenade(R) is a natural fungicide containing a strain of
Bacillus subtilis that has shown to control many plant pathogens
including Botrytis Gray Mold, Bunch Rot, Sour Rot, Powdery
Mildew, Fire Blight, and Bacterial Spot. Serenade utilizes
multiple modes of action preventing pathogens from attacking
prior to infection, preventing spores from developing at the
time of infection and attacking and destroying pathogens during
an infection. The multiple modes of action make it difficult for
pathogens to develop resistance to Serenade, and therefore, it
is a powerful tool when used in a program with chemical
fungicides that are more susceptible to resistance development.
Serenade has been listed by the Organic Materials Review
Institute and is non-toxic and safe in the environment. With the
issuance of the new patent, AgraQuest now has four U.S. patents
supporting its product Serenade. AgraQuest now has 20 U.S.
patents, 9 foreign patents and has filed an additional three on
an exciting new fungicide, a bioinsecticide and a biofumigant.
Due to the potential of international markets for Serenade,
AgraQuest recently hired Humberto Alba as Director of
International Business. Mr. Alba was most recently at Syngenta
Seeds as President and General Manager of Korea. He also worked
at Valent USA, Mycogen and Monsanto in senior international
positions. Mr. Alba has a BS in Agronomy and Horticulture from
Brigham Young University.
