Seeds 2000, Inc.
announced today the release of their new sunflower hybrid,
Charger, approved as part of the CLEARFIELD* Production Systems.
Charger is a high yielding, single cross, NuSunÔ
sunflower hybrid tolerant to the BASF herbicide BeyondÔ
. Charger maintains excellent end of season plant health, which
contributes to its high yield potential and results in above
average test weight. Charger is adapted to the southern half of
North Dakota, all of South Dakota and the High Plains region of
KS, CO and NE. Charger is suitable for NuSun or bird food
markets where no-till or solid seeding is preferred.
The CLEARFIELD* Production System for sunflower is a unique
production system comprised of herbicide-tolerant hybrids and
Beyond herbicide to manage green foxtail (pigeon grass), other
foxtail species, marshelder, wild mustard, cocklebur, and other
tough grasses and broadleaf weeds. Beyond is the only
post-emergence herbicide that provides contact and residual
control of a wide range of both broadleaf and grass weeds in
sunflowers. CLEARFIELD* sunflower and all other CLEARFIELD*
crops are recognized as non-GMO by international regulators.
With full EPA approval of the BASF herbicide Beyond, Seeds
2000 is excited to distribute the seed to their customers.
"We’ve had non-stop calls requesting the hybrid since the
seed has been approved, most of these growers absolutely need
the CLEARFIELD* production system to keep sunflowers on their
farm or bring them back. It’s especially important now so they
can take advantage of the hike in sunflower prices going into
the 2003 growing season," commented Seeds 2000 Sales Associate
Ed Lommel.
