The Global Information and Early Warning System (GIEWS) website,
which is the leading source of information on food production
and food security for almost all countries in the world, is now
available in Chinese, the Food and Agriculture Organization
(FAO) said today .
The new Chinese
webpage opens up information on GIEWS website, including two key
publications: Foodcrops and Shortages and Food Outlook,
to a large potential audience.
GIEWS
webmaster, Yanyun Li, who led the project to set up the Chinese
version said that it is a great opportunity to be able to make
the website's vast pool of information available in Chinese,
"We expect quite a large readership in
China and elsewhere
- the information will be of use to a large audience including
policy makers, researchers and students. Previously, GIEWS
reports were only available in Chinese in hard copy, but now
they are also instantly accessible online" she added.
