U.S. Agriculture Secretary names members to Fruit and Vegetable Industry Advisory Committee
Washington, DC
December 19, 2003

Agriculture Secretary Ann M. Veneman today announced the members appointed to the re-chartered Fruit and Vegetable Industry Advisory Committee.

“I am pleased that these individuals have agreed to serve on this important committee,” said Veneman.

The committee was first issued a 2-year charter by USDA in August 2001, and convened three times to fulfill its mission of developing recommendations on ways USDA can tailor programs to meet the needs of the U.S. produce industry. In August 2003, the committee was re-chartered for two additional years and new members were appointed from industry nominations.

The committee is comprised of individuals representing fresh fruit and vegetable growers, shippers, exporters, wholesalers, retailers, fruit and vegetable processors and fresh cut processors, food service suppliers, trade associations and state departments of agriculture. Members will serve a two-year term.

The committee’s next meeting is being scheduled for early 2004 in Arlington, Va.

Details of the upcoming meeting will be published in a future issue of the Federal Register and available at www.ams.usda.gov/fv. Information may also be obtained by emailing robert.keeney@usda.gov or calling (202) 720-4722.
