Seminis Inc. (Nasdaq: SMNS), the world's largest developer,
producer and marketer of vegetable and fruit seeds, today
announced that Mr. Eugenio Najera, President and Chief Operating
Officer, will end his assignment with Seminis, having completed
the turnaround of the company during his two and a half year
tenure.
Mr. Alfonso Romo, Chairman and
Chief Executive Officer, indicated that he will assume the
duties of the president in the ongoing implementation of
Seminis' growth and profitability initiatives as well as the
day-to-day operating activities of the worldwide company,
beginning April 1, 2003.
"I would like to personally
congratulate Eugenio Najera for his outstanding performance as
President and Chief Operating Officer of Seminis," said Mr.
Romo. "The results the company achieved during the past two and
half years can be credited in large part to his expertise in
implementing turnaround strategies. I recognize and appreciate
his considerable contributions." He indicated that Mr. Najera
will remain a member of the Seminis Board of Directors and also
serve as a close advisor on downstream value creation and
produce industry relations strategies.
Mr. Romo reaffirmed Seminis'
business strategy and vision: "Seminis is a unique company, and
we are at an enviable point in history. As our company was at a
crossroads, so is the vegetable seed industry today. For
companies willing to evolve, there are vast new opportunities.

our customers and improve nutrition and health on a worldwide

The company also announced that,
effective immediately, Mr. Bruno Ferrari will take a broader
role in the organization as Executive Senior Vice President of
Worldwide Commercial, overseeing all commercial sales and
marketing activities. Mr. Ferrari has held several leadership
positions in Seminis, most recently as Executive Senior Vice
President, Europe, Middle East and Africa.
Jose Manuel Madero was named as
Vice President, Supply Chain Management, with responsibility for
production, operations, forecasting, inventory management,
distribution and customer service. Mr. Madero joined Seminis
last year with responsibility over Forecasting and Inventory
Management.
The company also announced that
Mateo Mazal would assume the role of Vice President of Human
Resources and Information Technology. He has been on the Board
of Directors of Seminis since January 2002 and has held several
management positions at Seminis' parent company since 1985.
