For the second
consecutive year, LG Seeds
hybrids have shown outstanding performance in the Farmer’s
Independent Research of Seed Technologies field trials,
otherwise known as F.I.R.S.T. It is an association of farmers
organized to find newly developed and trait-added seed corn and
soybean products that improve their grain operations. Farmer
members assist in the selection of the test site, coordinate
field operations in the spring and provide all of the inputs
except the seed. Companies willing to sponsor the research
decide which products to test and where to test them. Only a
select group of hybrids are tested.
In 2003, LG
Seeds hybrids were entered in 21 of the 25 F.I.R.S.T. regions
that span from South Dakota to Maryland.
These hybrids were tested at several sites (6 per region) and
were tested equally and in three replications at each site. LG
Seeds’ products made an incredible impact on the competition for
the second year in a row. Six different LG hybrids placed 9th
or better in all of the F.I.R.S.T. regional summaries. Of those,
an LG hybrid placed 5th or better in 17 of the 21
regions LG Seeds was entered in. The biggest performer from the
LG stable of products this year was LG2540BT, winning the three
regions: Northwest Iowa, North Central Iowa and East Central
Illinois. While LG2540BT was outperforming the competition all
over Illinois, Indiana and Iowa, other hybrids were setting the
yield standard in the northern regions of Minnesota and
Wisconsin. LG2533 showed the consistency of LG Seeds products by
winning the Minnesota Southwest region for the second year
(based on yield. And, LG2463BT backed it up with a win in the
Northeast South Dakota region.
