FarmAssist website introduces On-Line Learning Center

Greensboro, North Carolina
December 17, 2004

The new FarmAssist On-Line Learning Center contains two interactive on-line learning modules developed by the American Society of Agronomy’s Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) program and Syngenta Crop Protection.  Located at  www.learn.farmassist.com, one module addresses glyphosate weed resistance and the other discusses the value of pre-emergence weed control.

A hot topic in weed control, glyphosate weed resistance presents growers with unique weed control challenges.

“Glyphosate resistance is a real and growing weed control issue in North America,” said Chuck Foresman, technical brand manager for Syngenta Crop Protection.  “The goal of the Glyphosate Weed Resistance on-line module is to provide viewers an in-depth look at glyphosate weed resistance to encourage responsible resistance management practices.”

With a similar goal in mind, the Pre-Emergence Weed Control online learning module will give viewers an in-depth look at corn-weed interactions during early growth stages and the value of controlling weeds from the start.

“University research continues to show severe yield loss resulting from early season weed competition,” said Mike Johnson, technical brand manager for Syngenta Crop Protection. “The Pre-Emergence Weed Control module provides the information and strategies to teach viewers best management practices to prevent early season weeds from diminishing yields.”

The web-based tool offers CCAs one Continuing Education Unit toward maintaining their CCA status with the American Society of Agronomy.  Both modules are available to anyone interested in these topics; you do not need to be a CCA to view the convenient, easy-access courses.
