FS Seed adds seven new FS Seed NutriDense corn hybrids to its seed lineup
Bloomington, Illinois
September 22, 2004

FS Seed recently introduced the release of seven new NutriDense® corn hybrids, according to Jim Happel, FS corn product manager for GROWMARK.

“NutriDense technology offers value-added, identity preserved grain tailored to farmers’ needs,” says Jim Happel, FS seed corn product manager for GROWAMRK Inc. “Livestock producers benefit from higher crude protein, increased concentrations of essential amino acids with excellent digestibility, greater levels of key minerals as well as elevated oil resulting in more energy content, and better palatability.”

NutriDense hybrids have a special product distinction for product use as silage and the NutriDense and as grain. They include:

Silage purpose hybrids

FS 3416 ND, a 95-day hybrid, has very good emergence and seedling vigor. It produces more milk per acre than yellow dent and has excellent tonnage and nutritional composition. This hybrid provides a NutriDense option to the dairyman in central Wisconsin and northern Iowa.

FS 5116 ND/RR, a 104-day hybrid, is a good choice for reduced tillage situations. It features Roundup Ready technology for control of weeds and has excellent yield potential and excellence emergence.

FS 6316 ND/YGCB, a 111-day maturity, has very good yield potential and consistency and very good dry down. This makes a great silage option for southern Illinois.

FS 6816 ND, a 113-day maturity, is an excellent choice for the Southern Illinois silage producer. This is a high tonnage, high nutritional hybrid.

Grain purpose hybrids

FS 5614 ND/CL, a 109-day maturity, features the CLEARFIELD Production System that allows for the use of Lightning herbicide for excellent control of grass and broadleaf weeds. It is a nutritionally-enhanced hybrid with higher levels of crude protein, increased concentrations of essential amino acids, and higher levels of oil content than yellow dent hybrids.

FS 5616 ND/YGCB, a 110-day maturity, offers YieldGard Corn Borer protection. It is a good option for northern Illinois and northeast Iowa regions. The hybrid offers excellent revenue potential and consistency with medium ear placement with girthy ears.

FS 6916 ND/YGCB, a 114-day YieldGard Corn Borer release, adapts well across the Corn Belt. This hybrid offers high-revenue potential and protection from European Corn Borer.

“With NutriDense corn, more nitrogen and amino acids are absorbed by the animal, meaning less nitrogen is passed through as waste. This means fewer nitrates in manure, thereby lessening the possibility of nitrates seeping into the groundwater as nonpoint pollution,” Happel adds. “FS Seed offers one of the most complete NutriDense product portfolios in the seed industry.”

NutriDense, is a technology produced by ExSeed Genetics, a BASF company. Contact your local FS cooperative to learn more about the NutriDense technology.
