Biosafety of the herbicide resistant GM soybean 40-3-2: experience in the Russian Federation
Dmitry Dorokhov, Centre "Bioengineering" of the Russian Academy of Sciences

Dr. Dorokhov, from the Centre of Bioengineering of the Russian Academy of Sciences has evaluated the risk of GM soybeans to the center of origin of wild soybean species. Wild Soybean Species are isolated to only the Far Eastern Soybean commercial production area of Russia. Experiments, pollination characteristic evaluations, ecosystem studies and genetic mapping done in the far east center of origin indicate limited risk of GM Soybean varieties outcrossing with wild types. Domestic soybeans do not appear to have the seed production characteristics or competitiveness to become a noxious weed in agricultural crop ecosystems or non-agricultural ecosystems.
