NIS countries agree on harmonization of national approaches to risk assessment for GMO and their products

A meeting of NIS countries’ representatives took place in Moscow 20-21 December 2004 within the frame of the Protocol on collaboration in the field of regulation of genetic engineering activities signed in 2002 by Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Armenia, Georgia, Tajikistan, Moldova, Russia, and Ukraine.

The major goal of the Protocol is to achieve harmonization of regulatory approaches to approval and transboundary movement of GMO and their products.

The Forum for Protocol is provisionally scheduled to the Spring 2005.
