Novoplant successfully completes financing round

Novoplant GmbH, the developer and producer of recombinant biologics for Animal Health, announced today the closing of a financing round. Under the agreements closed with IBG Beteiligungsgesellschaft Sachsen-Anhalt mbH (Magdeburg, Germany) a total of three million Euro (3 m€) will be invested into the company. Until now, the company has raised a total of five million Euro (5m€) by investments from Corporate Finance Holding (CFH), Leipzig, IBG Beteiligungsgesellschaft Sachsen-Anhalt mbH, Magdeburg, and Technologiebeteiligungsgesellschaft (tbg), Bonn.

“This sum will allow us to continue the already ongoing animal trial program for our most advanced antibody product candidates against E.coli infections in pigs and coccidiosis in poultry,“ said Dr. Dieter Falkenburg, CEO of Novoplant. “Furthermore, we will be able to pursue production issues and feed formulation studies and thus bring these antibodies closer to the market.”

Hendrik Liebers, who represents lead investor IBG on Novoplant`s board, commented: “With this financing round closed, Novoplant has secured substantial funding to further progress its product and technology pipeline. The successful capital raise reflects the company`s significant achievements in the development of its lead candidates Novoplant is well positioned to maintain its leading position in developing veterinary therapeutics and feed additives produced in plants.”

IBG Beteiligungsgesellschaft Sachsen-Anhalt mbH is a venture capital fund, located in Magdeburg/ Germany. Life Science is one of the core investment areas of IBG, whereby IBG has a particular interest in pharmaceutical developments and agricultural biotechnology.

Novoplant GmbH, located in Gatersleben, is a biotechnology company working on the development and production of recombinant biologics for Animal Health. Its major focus is on the development of antibodies which are expressed in plants and microbial fermentation systems. For the prevention of gastrointestinal diseases in production animals antibodies are directly applied with the feed plant. Thus the benefits of recombinant antibodies are made available to farmers and breeders at a competitive price. Furthermore, antibodies and other biologics are developed for therapeutic applications. The company has established license agreements with MorphoSys, Munich, on its Human Combinatorial Antibody Library (HuCAL®) technology and with Icon Genetics, Halle, on its transgenic plant expression systems.
