Professional Seed Research Inc. (PSR) introduces a new corn
genetics company to the seed industry.
Since 1995, PSR has used its Rapid
Inbreeding® (RI) technology to develop inbred lines from
unencumbered public materials. “PSR Global Genetics is a natural
evolution of our RI breeding program. We came up with the idea
of creating this company five years ago, but our germplasm just
wasn’t quite there yet. Today, our lines are outperforming
others in tests”, states Jim Dodd, CEO. The powerful force
behind the inbred development process is Rapid Inbreeding®,
which allows quick recycling of the best selections for yield
improvement within a population.
PSR Global Genetics LLC is offering independent proprietary
genetics to the seed industry for breeding and licensing
arrangements. “We are producing 5000 inbred lines each year from
over 100 different populations and those numbers are growing as
our industry partners are growing”, says Robert Johnson, VP of
Operations.
All of PSR Global’s germplasm, ranging from temperate to
semi-tropical, will be marketed through reputable seed stock
brokerage firms with world market coverage. In addition, PSR
Global Genetics has backcrossing agreements with all trait
providers. Having access to the newest trait technology
corresponds well with the PSR conversion program, using
Phenotype Select™ to speed products to the market.
With the launching of PSR Global Genetics, Professional Seed
Research Inc. will continue to provide its unique seed testing,
breeding and pathology services to the seed industry. “The new
company will not change our commitment to our seed customers. We
have been in business for 20 years and our service to them is
our first priority”, states Matt Dodd, Vice President of
Marketing.
Established in 1987, Professional Seed Research, Inc. (PSR)
provides Seed Testing, Breeding and Pathology services to nearly
300 companies internationally. PSR's revolutionary SMF™
Technology increases efficiency in seed testing and accelerates
maize breeding programs by more than four generations. |
