Following a two-year process of plot entries, hybrid testing, and a cook test, FS 6996 Brand Corn has been added to Frito-Lay’s Illinois Food Grade list. FS 6996 is one of only three new yellow seed corn brands to be added to the Illinois list.

“Seed genetic selection is key to meeting Frito-Lay’s thorough new variety protocol,“ says Dr. Dennis Garzonio, FS Seed Corn Product Manager. “We have tested more than 2,000 combinations over the last three years to find brands that meet food processors’ requirements, and we continue to seek out high-yielding pedigrees with output traits suited for specific markets. These same high-yielding FS Brands can also be used as yellow dent corn.”

This success belongs to all of us because it is based on our collective efforts.” FS Seed District Sales Managers work with FS Member Cooperatives to provide grain samples to the FS Seed Premium Solutions program for testing and evaluation.

Frito-Lay contracts with growers to produce white and yellow corn for food production within a 150-mile radius of its Sidney, Illinois, facility in Champaign County. FS Seed has maintained a relationship with Frito-Lay since 2005.

The FS Premium Solutions program is a systemic approach to helping farmers improve profitability, reduce business risks, and become more competitive in a changing agricultural marketplace. The program focuses on trait-specific, value-enhanced grain designed to meet the requirements of end users and capitalize on unique contracting opportunities.
