GROWMARK, Inc. today announced an agreement to transfer
ownership of its Piper City, Ill. seed production and
conditioning plant to
PRECISION SOYA,
LLC of Ft. Wayne, Ind. The transfer is effective September
1, 2007.
Ron Milby, GROWMARK FS Seed Division manager says the regional
cooperative has worked with PRECISION SOYA, LLC for more than a
decade to produce portions of the FS HiSOY® Seed line.
“Precision Soya has an outstanding reputation of producing
top-quality seed. Its reputation, coupled with our long-standing
relationship, gives us confidence that farmers will continue to
receive top-quality seed during the transition and beyond,”
Milby said.
GROWMARK FS Seed Brand managers will continue to direct the
genetic selection and determine the necessary technology traits
for all FS Seed lines. Additionally, the Piper City plant will
be one of several Precision Soya plants that will produce,
condition, and bag FS HiSOY soybeans.
Local FS member cooperatives throughout Illinois, Iowa and
Wisconsin will continue to market and provide grower support for
farmers in their respective areas. “This transaction will allow
us to concentrate on what we do best and that is market our
brands as solutions for farmers,” Milby said.
“Due to the continued growth in our contract seed production
business, we are very pleased to have reached an agreement with
GROWMARK, Inc. to acquire its Piper City, Ill. plant to further
support that growth,” said Kirby Stolte, President, PRECISION
SOYA, LLC. “We have had an excellent relationship with the FS
HiSOY brand over the years and will continue to produce the
highest quality seed available for GROWMARK’s customers,” Stolte
said.
The Piper City, Ill. plant was built in 1952 and purchased by
GROWMARK in 1965. The plant site is comprised of a production
facility and equipment and lies on approximately 25 acres. At
full production, the plant processes one million soybean units
(50 pounds) annually.
