Dr. Patricia Berglund has
announced her retirement as Director of
Northern Crops Institute
(NCI), a post she has held since January 1996. Berglund will
formally retire in December 2007. A national search is underway
to fill the Director position.
"Pat Berglund is an outstanding leader for the Northern Crops
Institute, Upper Great Plains agricultural producers, and North
Dakota State University,” says NDSU President Joseph A. Chapman.
“Throughout her career, she has made significant achievements
and noteworthy innovations to benefit producers and consumers.
Her efforts have made a great impact, not only within the
regional agricultural community, but on the national and
international level as well," he concludes.
Since taking the NCI helm, Berglund has seen remarkable changes
in regional agriculture. “The diversity of crops that NCI serves
has probably been the greatest change since I started in 1996,”
Berglund says. “We were much more narrowly focused when I came
on board. Today we are providing programs and processing for
most of the crops produced in this region, and right now that
totals around 20. The future of our region’s agriculture is
unlimited,” Berglund concludes.
Berglund came to Northern Crops Institute after 30 years as a
public school teacher, university faculty member at University
of Minnesota Waseca and NDSU, and NDSU administrator. After
teaching on the NDSU Department of Food and Nutrition faculty,
she served as Associate Dean of the NDSU College of Human
Development and Education.
Berglund earned her master’s degree and her Ph. D. in cereal
science from NDSU.
Berglund plans to continue working as a trainer in international
business protocol, and in fundraising and development efforts.
Her future plans also include spending more time with her
husband, Duane, and their family, including four grandchildren.
Pat and Duane Berglund will split their time between their homes
in Minnesota and Arizona. |
