Wyffels Hybrids, an independent seed corn company, today
announced that many of the hybrids in Wyffels’ 2008 lineup will
qualify for the Biotech Yield Endorsement (BYE) pilot program.
The BYE program, launched by the Risk Management Agency (RMA) of
the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is available
for the 2008 crop year in the states of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa
and Minnesota.
The BYE program will provide producers a premium rate reduction
if they plant non-irrigated corn for grain containing the
biotech traits marketed under the trade names of YieldGard® Plus
with Roundup Ready® Corn 2 and YieldGard VT Triple. Wyffels’
2008 lineup includes 24 qualifying hybrids, ranging from 98 to
117 relative maturities.
“Wyffels Hybrids offers one of the widest genetic and trait
selections in the industry with many of our top genetic families
available with the YieldGard VT Triple trait,” said Mark Risley,
marketing director at Wyffels Hybrids. “As an independent
company, we have the flexibility of offering the trait packages
growers are looking for. Our wide offering will allow growers
who are interested in this benefit to take advantage of the top
Wyffels genetics.”
Producers with an individual yield or revenue insurance plan
(APH, RA, or CRC) at a buy-up level of Federal crop insurance
coverage, and who plant up to 75 percent of their acreage in
eligible non-irrigated corn for grain, will be qualified for the
discount. Insurance providers who elect to offer the BYE pilot
program will notify their customers of the availability of the
BYE program and the eligibility criteria. Those produces who
meet those criteria will qualify for the premium rate reduction.
