Research

Most sources of ergot resistance are not stable across environments and, at present, no stable source of resistance is available for sorghum improvement. To explore the possibilities of identifying resistance sources from exotic germplasm, this study evaluates potential sources of ergot resistance within the USDA-ARS National Plant Germplasm System sorghum collection. Forty Chinese sorghum landraces were evaluated for ergot resistance during the 2005 and 2006 growing seasons.
