Genesis Research and
Development Corporation Ltd (NZSX/ASX: GEN) announced that
Microsoft will provide global support for Cartesian Software,
developed by Genesis in 2003-4 and sold to a New Zealand
software developer in 2005.
Cartesian (now marketed as SLIM Search™) is being developed and
marketed globally by NetValue Ltd of Hamilton, New Zealand.
Microsoft has appointed NetValue as a High Performance Computing
(HPC) Partner, the first New Zealand software company to achieve
such status. NetValue was also selected as a Microsoft High
Potential Managed Independent Software Vendor (ISV) Partner at a
Leading Financial Services Conference on Wall Street where SLIM
Search was demonstrated on Microsoft Windows HPC Server 2008.
This software combination enables users to undertake genomic
searching of very large data sets without the use of
supercomputers. Software such as Slim Search™ is expected to be
vital in the developing era of personal genomics and next
generation sequencing.
SLIM Search(tm) allows customers to perform complex genomic
searches and analysis in real time enabling advanced biological
studies in genomes. This outstanding work has been recognised by
Microsoft globally and is creating significant sales leads in
the scientific community around the world.
"Microsoft is excited to be working with NetValue to enable new
innovations in high performance computing," said Kevin Ackhurst,
Managing Director of Microsoft New Zealand. "The combined
collaboration of NetValue's SLIM technology and Windows HPC
Server 2008 will help customers solve the world's most complex
technical computing problems."
Microsoft High Potential Managed ISV partners are chosen based
on strict selection criteria including revenue growth and an
established track record of success working with Microsoft.
Through this programme, Microsoft will devote key resources to
help accelerate the adoption of NetValue's SLIM technology in
the marketplace. For instance, NetValue has also been appointed
a personal Microsoft Architect Evangelist and a Partner Account
Manager to accelerate the adoption of NetValue's products
globally. Only 2% of Microsoft's ISV population achieves the
High Potential Managed ISV status. NetValue is one of about
twenty Microsoft Managed ISV partners worldwide, recognizing
their expertise and total impact in the marketplace.
NetValue's high speed genomic search technology combined with
Microsoft's HPC Server 2008 is a critical component for the next
generation of bioinformatics," said Graham Gaylard, Chief
Executive of NetValue. "Our partnership with Microsoft will be a
significant boost to our business globally and is expected to
result in significantly greater licensing revenue."
Windows HPC Server 2008 provides a broad platform for software
vendors and an expanded playing field for hardware manufacturers
to enable new innovations in high performance computing.
Microsoft continues to make deep investments in high performance
computing and is committed to driving innovation to help solve
the world's technical computing problems.
NetValue Ltd was incorporated in 2004 with the aim of
building a world class software development and online services
group. Since inception it has pursued strategic businesses and
has acquired several key technology companies including Reel Two
(high end database development and high performance search
technology), SLIM Search, InterSpeed (website development,
hosting and domain name registrar), SitesOnline (website
development and hosting), Key Software (accounting and payroll
software) and WebAddress (wholesale domain names).
SLIM Search™ is the ultimate genomics search solution, providing
more speed, more flexibility and more sensitivity. The unique
way that SLIM Search(tm) works, returns a richer data content
that makes it possible to create scores and molecular alignments
directly from a word search. SLIM Search(tm) also tags the
alignments digitally, so subsequent analysis can be computerized
and automated for the first time. SLIM Search SLIM Search™ can
- search and analyze short reads (~35n), reads generated by 454
Life Sciences technology and huge 10k+ reads, all in real-time,
and
- compare genomes from all currently sequenced bacteria
(comprising a total of 2.2 billion nucleotides) in a 600x600
full genome pairwise test in less than 2 minutes, as illustrated
in the picture below.
