Over the four years since its
inception, the Seed Association
of the Americas (SAA) has brought together seed industry
representatives from Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Mexico,
the United States, and Canada to facilitate the resolution of
issues that promote and improve the movement of seed throughout
the North South corridor. The 1st SAA Congress was held in
Buenos Aires in 2007 with a key focus on the importance of
intellectual property rights. The Congress was a great success
and laid a foundation for action by the group as it moves
forward.
Building on that foundation, the SAA, in coordination with the
Brazilian Association of Seed Producers (ABRASEM), has organized
the 2nd SAA Congress to be held Sept. 28-30, 2009 in Atibaia,
Brazil (located 45 minutes from Sao Paulo). The key areas of
focus for this international gathering of seed specialists will
be phytosanitary issues and the impact of regulations on the
movement of seed throughout the region; intellectual property
rights and the use of contracts to enforce IPR on plants and
related technologies; and the issue of low level presence of
biotechnology traits.
The phytosanitary session will focus on pest risk analysis, seed
re-export, and international and regional standards. The
intellectual property rights session will review the use of
contracts as an enforcement tool for IPR related issues on
plants and related technologies. And the last key issue of the
Congress will be a session on biotechnology, adventitious
presence and low level presence by government officials and seed
industry representatives.
For the convenience of all participants, all Congress sessions
will have simultaneous translation in English, Portuguese and
Spanish. In order to also facilitate business development and
interaction between the participants, arrangements have been
made for trading tables and meeting rooms to conduct business at
your convenience. The highlights, activities and facilities, as
well as registration information, can be found by visiting the
Congress’s web page at:

This is an ideal opportunity to meet with government and
industry leaders throughout Northern, Central and South America. |
