July 8, 1999Wuzi Xie has joined Stoneville Pedigreed Seed Company as transgenic
laboratory manager. His first responsibility will be to establish the transgenic
laboratory for ensuring the genetic integrity of all experimental lines and released
varieties with respect to transgenic traits.
Wuzi comes to Stoneville with 21 years of experience in cotton research. He previously
worked for BioTexas Co., where he conducted transgenic cotton research and has held
research positions at Arizona State University and the Mayo Clinic. Prior to coming to the
U.S., he worked for five years as a cotton breeder for the Cotton Research
Institute, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
"Xie's international experience and extensive history of research in cotton
technology has made him an expert in the field," said Thomas F. "Bud"
Hughes, president of Stoneville. "His knowledge of transgenic cotton varieties will
strengthen our brand. We are honored to have him join the Stoneville team."
Xie holds a doctorate in biological sciences from Texas Tech University and a master's
degree in agronomy/cotton research from the University of Arkansas. He earned his
bachelor's degree in genetics and plant breeding at the Beijing Agricultural University in
China.
