Epichloë fungal endophytes essential for pasture persistence

Of all plant species, ryegrass has the greatest contribution to New Zealand’s economy.

Ryegrass is valued at 3.3 times the second most valuable species, Pinus radiata. Epichloë fungal endophytes such as AR37 are vital for pasture persistence.  Volume 67, Issue 4 (2024) of the New Zealand Journal of Agricultural Research includes a review article by John Caradus titled Epichloë fungal endophytes – a vital component for perennial ryegrass survival in New Zealand.
