Location: Antalya, Turkey

Sakata Vegetables Europe is a subsidiary of Sakata Seed Corporation (Japan) and is responsible for the development and expansion of the activities across the EMEA area. Sakata seed Corporation is a research and development corporation where research is fundamental for its business. Sakata’s success relies on the creation and the development of innovating products which are adapted
to consumers’ expectations and farmers’ needs.


As part of our tomato breeding group we are looking for a Tomato Breeder with vision, experience, and passion to contribute to the development of our tomato portfolio. This position provides the right candidate with an excellent
opportunity to develop a career with one of the leading global vegetable seed companies.

The main responsibilities of this position include:

  • Responsible for the indeterminate salad tomato programs, dedicated mainly for the Türkiye markets with possibility of extension to other markets.
  • Manage all components of a successful commercial crops breeding program, which includes management of existing germplasm, acquisition and development of new germplasm, development of commercial successful hybrids, and maintenance of elite lines etc.
  • Schedule breeding and hybrid trials and plan for the necessary plot space, supplies and seasonal labor.
  • Develop a strong relationship with marketing and sales teams and contribute meaningful towards the hybrid advancement process.
  • Interact and communicate effectively and regularly with members of other breeding groups, laboratories, and farm teams.
  • Collaborate with various teams with regards to specific breeding projects aimed at short-, medium-, and long-term strategies with the aim to contribute and strengthen our intellectual property position.
  • Participate in various strategic meetings with positive contribution towards the success of the program.
  • Interact with growers and relevant markets to support Sakata’s vision and business development.
  • Keep up to date with literature reviews and maintain contact with public research institutions. 

While the breeder will be based at the Antalya office, it will be required to travel both locally as well as internationally.


  • Minimum MSc in Plant Breeding or related area
  • 5-10 years working experience with tomato breeding
  • Very good knowledge of plant breeding, genetics, new breeding techniques and phytopathology
  • Strong communication, organizational, coordination and analytical skills and ability to motivate others
  • Flexibility, pro-active and able to perform in a multicultural environment
  • Ability to work via distance and assume efficient reporting to Sakata headquarters
  • Ability to work independently with minimal day to day supervision.
  • Must be fluent in Turkish and English (speech and written); other languages are an advantage


This position is available from December 2022 and based in our Antalya’ station, Turkey.
