Fresh Select to launch Tozer Seeds' Kalettes™ in Australia

United Kingdom
May 11, 2015

Scott Samwell of Eastbrook Farms, Mt Barker, South Australia in his field of  Kalettes ™, ready for market.

Tozer Seeds, a UK based breeder of vegetables, have recently announced that Fresh Select of Werribee South, Victoria, are the exclusive supplier for their unique new vegetable, Kalettes ™.  Using the expertise of major South Australian Brussels Sprout growers, Eastbrook Farm, Fresh Select will soon be launching this totally new product, Australia-wide.

Kalettes ™are the first truly new type of vegetable to be launched in Australia for over ten years.  It was developed by Tozer Seeds, using traditional plant breeding methods, crossing a Kale with a Brussels Sprout.  In the UK, where the product is known as Flower Sprout ™, it was first sold in 2010.  Last year, the product was launched in the USA, where consumers have lauded the sweet, nutty flavour and versatility of the product.  Kalettes ™ can be steamed, sautéed, eaten fresh in salads and consumers are sure to enjoy the subtle flavours, compared to standard green Brussels Sprouts.

Fresh Select, the exclusive Australian commercial distributors of Kalettes ™, are a farming and distribution company producing a range of vegetables nationally.

Managing Director, John Said, was particularly enthusiastic about Kalettes ™, “the vegetable category hasn’t seen this extent of innovation since the release of Baby Broccoli which hit our shelves almost a decade ago. Grown like Brussels Sprouts on the stem of the plant, Kalettes ™ really are the innovative and delicious way to enjoy eating old favourites with a completely new makeover!”  The product will be available nationally in Coles Supermarkets from mid-May 2015.
