No travel, no problem. To ensure growers, seed distributors and partners along the value chain are still equipped with the latest products and innovations despite pandemic-related restrictions, Syngenta Vegetable Seeds is creating its first live, virtual field day event.
Scheduled for Sept. 10, “Syngenta Americas Tour – Live! A Virtual Cucurbits Experience” is free to register for and attend, and will highlight the latest commercial and experimental cucurbit innovations in the Syngenta portfolio. During the event, which will be remotely broadcast from Woodland, attendees will have the opportunity to tune in for multiple presentations, then participate in Q&A sessions with the Syngenta vegetables breeding and sales team.
“Our goal was to create an interactive and engaging must-attend event that connects Syngenta with its growers and stakeholders in the vegetable seed community,” said Javier Martinez-Cabrera, head of the Americas, Vegetable Seeds at Syngenta. “We see it as an opportunity to show our versatility and to do more: adapting our traditional field days into an exciting new experience and inviting audiences who don’t typically have the chance to attend.”
With the virtual platform, attendees can discover more about the R&D that is fueling innovation and the resulting solutions that make a real difference in the field. Each session of the event will have its own regional focus, covering topics and varieties of key interest for those demographics and featuring speakers in multiple languages.
The morning session will focus on South America, Central America and the Caribbean, with presentations covering:
- Enhanced virus-resistant zucchini and squash varieties for healthier plants and higher yield and profit potentials
- Large seeded and seedless watermelon varieties with exceptional eating quality and proven performance
- Full-flavor and proven yield melon varieties ideal for shipper and local markets
The afternoon portion of the event will kick off with a focus on the U.S., Canada and Mexico markets. Topics will include:
- Spineless plant zucchini and squash varieties for easier harvest, with enhanced virus-resistant disease packages for better crop management
- Full season harvest watermelon varieties that provide grower flexibility
- Highly adaptable and easy-pick traits featured in extended shelf life and harper melon varieties
- Long Dutch cucumber varieties featuring strong dark-colored plants with exceptional disease resistant packages for the active greenhouse market
