Australia - Adore Delor half-long pepper at the Seminis Protected Crops Open Day

Australia
November 11, 2020

An exciting addition to the Seminis half-long pepper portfolio will be a highlight at this years’ Protected Crops Open Day.

South Australia Regional Business Manager, Linda Ferrarese and Market Development Specialists’ Adrian Simkins and Fergus Irwin will host growers at the second Open Day in Virginia, South Australia on Thursday 26 November 2020.

Held at the CRT Greenhouse the event will feature personalised walk-throughs of current capsicum, cucumber, eggplant, chilli and tomato trials. However, this year will be slightly different to last – and COVID-19 will not be the only reason why.

Seminis’ latest addition in half-long capsicums, Delor will be on display. Delor is a green-to-red half-long capsicum suited to unheated protected production. Those who attend the event will be given the opportunity to visit a commercial planting of the variety.

“Delor produces heavy fruit with thick walls, giving the variety high production potential,” says Seminis Regional Business Manager for South Australia, Linda Ferrarese. “That’s what the growers here in Virginia are looking for, so Delor really does tick all the boxes.”

“I think it’s an excellent opportunity to have those who attend the event visit a commercial planting that is only about five minutes down the road from the CRT Greenhouse. It will allow growers to really put into perspective the benefits of this variety,” adds Linda.

Market Development Specialist, Adrian Simkins will also be sharing his insight and expertise on protected cropping, including agronomic tips and tricks for local South Australia growing conditions.

“Similar to last year, Open Day will allow us to showcase new and emerging varieties that are currently in the pipeline,” says Adrian. “We’re really excited about the new genetics and innovation, particularly in our capsicum and eggplant portfolios.”

“SV2162EV is a new to trial eggplant that I think has a lot of potential here in Virginia. It looks absolutely fantastic and it’s suited to both greenhouse and open field production. I believe it will generate a lot of interest at the event.

“And of course, we have Delor. This variety is a complement to SV0522PH and SV5581PH. Growers here love both of those varieties so I think it will fit in well with local growing programmes,” adds Adrian.

Bayer Horticulture Territory Business Manager, Darren Alexander will also be in attendance to discuss the importance of crop protection, as well as the perks of utilising and adapting products such as Serenade Prime in planting programmes.

The Open Day will be a COVID-Safe event and is registered with the South Australian government. Social distancing in the greenhouse and contact tracing will be enforced.
