USDA Agriculture Marketing Service proposes updates to bioengineered foods list

USA
August 3, 2022

USDA Agriculture Marketing Service (AMS) is seeking comments on proposed updates to the list of bioengineered foods. AMS proposed the following two changes:

  • Add “sugarcane (Bt insect-resistant varieties)”
  • Amend “squash (summer)” to “squash (summer, mosaic virus-resistant varieties)”

The Federal Register Notice can be found here. The public comment period closes on September 20, 2022. ASTA will be submitting comments. Please coordinate with ASTA if your company is interested in submitting comments.

This current proposed rule was developed based on public comments received to the 2020 Advanced Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on proposed update to the BE Food List. That docket, including comments from ASTA, can be found here.
