Mr. ArndJan van Wijk, senior project officer of Naktuinbouw, has received the 2013 Friendship Award of the People’s Republic of China. The award was handed over by vice premier Ma Kai in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on September 29th. A total of 50 foreign experts from 20 countries received this year’s award. It is the first time in 30 years that a Dutchman receives this award.

As representative of Naktuinbouw, Mr. Van Wijk has done a lot of work in China since 2007 for the further development of the plant variety protection system, in several Government-to-Government projects on Plant Breeders’ Rights.

Friendship Award
The Friendship Award (literally "The People's Republic of China Friendship Award") is the People’s Republic of China’s highest award for foreign experts who have made outstanding contributions to the country's economic and social progress. The award is conferred as part of the celebrations for the National Day of the People’s Republic of China (October 1st). The award consists of a medal and an award certificate.
