Growers’ interest in legume crops as an essential part of the arable rotation, to tackle blackgrass and balance overall work load, has increased demand for pea and bean crops this spring, reports Syngenta Vegetable Crop Manager, Rebecca Stilton.

“The 2014 Pulse Roadshows will be especially valuable for growers now looking to add peas or beans in their cropping plans. It provides the chance to identify the optimum management of legumes within the rotation, as well as providing existing growers with the most up to date agronomy and marketing information.”

Presentations will include the advice and topical tips for new herbicide programmes to maximise the potential for blackgrass control with pulses. Furthermore, advice provided will help growers exploit the potential soil nitrogen supply from pulse crops, as well as how to cope with the season’s impending pest and disease threat.

The PGRO/Syngenta Pulse Roadshow 2014 topics include:

  • Optibean project update, including sowing dates and populations
  • Disease control timing and impact
  • Establishment experiences from a growers perspective
  • Pulse crop marketing - BEPA
  • Bruchid Cast launch and pest updates
  • Pulse varieties progression
  • PGRO research project involvement.

Invitations and booking forms have been mailed to all PGRO members. Other farmers and agronomists can book a free Roadshow place by sending an email to syn.events@syngenta.com quoting ‘PGRO’ in the subject line, along with their name and meeting preferences.
