The African Intellectual Property Organization (OAPI) became the second intergovernmental organization and the seventy-second member to join the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV) when Mr. Paulin Edou Edou, Director General of OAPI, deposited the instrument of accession of OAPI to the UPOV Convention with the Secretary-General of UPOV, Mr. Francis Gurry, on June 10, 2014.
The purpose of UPOV is to provide and promote an effective system of plant variety protection, with the aim of encouraging the development of new varieties of plants, for the benefit of society (see FAQs at http://www.upov.int/about/en/faq.html).
OAPI operates a plant variety protection system which covers the territory of its 17 member States: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal and Togo. “The accession of OAPI is a milestone in the history of UPOV and promises to help strengthen the system of plant variety protection around the world and to broaden international cooperation in this area,” Gurry said.

L’Organisation africaine de la propriété intellectuelle (OAPI), deuxième organisation intergouvernementale à devenir membre de l’UPOV
L’Organisation africaine de la propriété intellectuelle (OAPI) est devenue la deuxième organisation intergouvernementale et le soixante-douzième membre de l’Union internationale pour la protection des obtentions végétales (UPOV) lorsque M. Paulin Edou Edou, Directeur général de l’OAPI, a déposé l’instrument d’adhésion de l’OAPI à la Convention UPOV auprès du Secrétaire général de l’UPOV, M. Francis Gurry, le 10 juin 2014.
La mission de l’UPOV est de mettre en place et promouvoir un système efficace de protection des variétés végétales afin d’encourager l’obtention de variétés dans l’intérêt de tous (voir les FAQ à l’adresse http://www.upov.int/about/fr/faq.html).
L’OAPI a adopté un système de protection des obtentions végétales qui couvre le territoire de ses 17 États membres : Bénin, Burkina Faso, Cameroun, Comores, Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Gabon, Guinée, Guinée-Bissau, Guinée-équatoriale, Mali, Mauritanie, Niger, République centrafricaine, Sénégal, Tchad et Togo. “L’adhésion de l’OAPI constitue un jalon important dans l’histoire de l’UPOV et est un gage de renforcement du système de protection des obtentions végétales dans le monde entier et d’élargissement de la coopération internationale dans ce domaine”, a déclaré M. Gurry.

Die Afrikanische Organisation für geistiges Eigentum (OAPI) trat als zweite zwischenstaatliche Organisation und zweiundsiebzigstes Mitglied dem Internationalen Verband zum Schutz von Pflanzenzüchtungen (UPOV) bei, als Herr Paulin Edou Edou, Generaldirektor der OAPI am 10. Juni 2014 die Beitrittsurkunde der OAPI beim Generalsekretär der UPOV, Herrn Francis Gurry, hinterlegte.
Die Aufgabe der UPOV ist die Bereitstellung und Förderung eines wirksamen Sortenschutzsystems mit dem Ziel, die Entwicklung neuer Pflanzensorten zum Nutzen der Gesellschaft zu begünstigen (siehe FAQ unter http://www.upov.int/about/de/faq.html).
Die OAPI verfügt über ein Sortenschutzsystem, das die Hoheitsgebiete seiner 17 Mitgliedsstaaten umfaßt: Äquatorialguinea, Benin, Burkina Faso, Elfenbeinküste, Gabun, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kamerun, Komoren, Kongo, Mali, Mauretanien, Niger, Senegal, Togo, Tschad und Zentralafrikanische Republik. Die OAPI hat ihren Hauptsitz in Jaunde, Kamerun (siehe http://www.oapi.int/).
„Der Beitritt der OAPI stellt einen Meilenstein in der Geschichte der UPOV dar und verspricht, einen Beitrag zur Stärkung des Sortenschutzsystems in aller Welt zu leisten und die internationale Zusammenarbeit auf diesem Gebiet zu erweitern,“ sagte Gurry.

La Organización Africana de la Propiedad Intelectual (OAPI) ha pasado a ser la segunda organización intergubernamental y el septuagésimo segundo miembro de la Unión Internacional para la Protección de las Obtenciones Vegetales (UPOV), tras el depósito por el Sr. Paulin Edou Edou, Director General de la OAPI, del instrumento de adhesión de la OAPI al Convenio de la UPOV ante el Secretario General de la UPOV, el Sr. Francis Gurry, el 10 de junio de 2014.
La misión de la UPOV es proporcionar y fomentar un sistema eficaz para la protección de las variedades vegetales, con miras al desarrollo de nuevas variedades vegetales para beneficio de la sociedad (véanse las FAQ en la dirección http://www.upov.int/about/es/faq.html).
