Darrin DeLange, DeLange Seed Company, named 2014 Premier Seed Grower by the Kansas Crop Improvement Association

Manhattan, Kansas, USA
February 23, 2015

Darrin DeLange, DeLange Seed Company, Girard, Kansas was named 2014 Premier Seed Grower by Kansas Crop Improvement Association at the 2015 Kansas Seed and Crops Conference held in Manhattan on February 18.

To qualify for the award, members must have several years of experience as a certified seed producer, with certified seed being a major component of their business, must exhibit quality consciousness in all production and sales practices, and must be involved in public service activities.

DeLange literally grew up in the seed business, following the path of his father, Howard DeLange, a recipient of the Premier Seed Grower award in 1989, and is currently the General Manager of the Girard location.  DeLange Seed produces, conditions, and distributes crop and field seeds as well as turf grasses, bird seeds, wildflowers, and wildlife habitat seeds in several states.

In addition to his duties with the seed business, DeLange is also the owner and CEO of a trucking company and farms approximately 400 acres of row-crops and wheat.

DeLange has been very involved with the Kansas seed industry, serving on the Kansas Crop Improvement Association Board of Directors for nine years and as the VP of Research for much of that time.  He has also served on the Kansas Seed Industry Association Board and was President of the organization in 2001.  Locally, DeLange's family was selected as a Farm Bureau Family of the Year in 2012 and is a past-president and current board member with the Crawford County Farm Bureau.

Darrin and his wife Jill, have been married for 25 years and have 3 children, Derrick, Logan and Ben.

Since its inception in 1930, 161 Premier Seed Grower awards have been presented. Recipients are selected by ballot with previous year’s honorees casting the votes. The award presentation is sponsored by the High Plains Journal.
