John Innes Centre to become Employer Champion for UK Science Council
Norwich, United Kingdom

Research and Support Staff play an essential and important role in scientific institutions. The John Innes Centre is recognising this by becoming a Science Council Employer Champion.
As an Employer Champion the JIC will encourage career development for all its Research and support staff. This includes encouraging professional registration as a Registered Science Technician, a Registered Scientist, or a Chartered Scientist. Registration is one way to recognise and acknowledge professionalism and good practice. The JIC will encourage all staff, who are eligible, to join the Science Council’s professional register.
Professor Dale Sanders, Director of the John Innes Centre, said: ‘The John Innes Centre values the contribution of its Research & Support Staff and wishes to provide opportunities for them to further their career development. Professional registration provides this opportunity and will also help raise the profile of scientific and technical staff.’
Scientific innovation and economic progress are dependent on the training of a new generation of technicians and scientists and on the professional development of our existing workforce. The JIC understands this need and is committed to ensuring its Research and Support Staff are recognised for their contribution to JIC science.
