Australia - Grants program continues to reward sustainable cotton farming

Australia
August 18, 2015

Cotton growers who receive myBMP certification this year will again be eligible for a $2,000 ex GST grant under the Better Farming Brighter Future sustainable cotton farming initiative.

“We’re pleased to offer these grants for the second consecutive season as a way to help encourage growers to undertake myBMP certification,” Monsanto Australia Managing Director, Daniel Kruithoff said.

“Monsanto is committed to helping farmers continue to produce high quality crops with fewer resources and the myBMP program supports this objective. A number  of growers benefitted from the grants program last year, supporting an initiative which encourages the continual improvement of cotton farms’ responsible and efficient use of resources.

“We know Aussie cotton growers are among the most innovative farmers in Australian agriculture and are already leaders in the adoption of new technology and implementing best practice. The continuation of the Better Farming Brighter Future grants program is our way of acknowledging these achievements and supporting continual improvement in cotton farming,” Mr Kruithoff said.

Supported by Cotton Australia and the Cotton Research and Development Corporation (CRDC) the Better Farming Brighter Future grants are available to all cotton farmers who undertake an audit and complete myBMP certification of their operation by 31 December 2015.

Cotton Australia CEO Adam Kay said the Better Farming Brighter Future grants would be welcomed by the industry.

myBMP is an essential tool for Aussie cotton growers, ensuring we grow our world-leading fibre to the highest standards possible,” Mr Kay said.

“Growers gain a great deal by using myBMP, which helps improve the efficiency of water use, pesticide management and other important inputs. myBMP also contributes to the overall health of the industry by helping everyone maintain essential standards.”

“The Better Farming Brighter Future grants acknowledge the hard work of farmers that complete myBMP certification, and recognise the contribution certified growers make to the improvement of the industry’s sustainability credentials.”

“We encourage all cotton growers considering undertaking myBMP certification to take up the offer of this valuable grant,” Mr Kay said.

For more information please visit www.betterfarmingbrighterfuture.com.au. Growers must complete their myBMP certification prior to December 31 2015 to be eligible to receive a grant in 2016.
