NIAB TAG has appointed Andrew Watson as its Eastern Regional Agronomist.
Andrew will start with NIAB TAG in his new role in early October, providing agronomy information and technical services to members across the eastern region, from 
The Wash down to Kent, and working closely with fellow regional agronomists Richard Overthrow, Patrick Stephenson and Steve Cook.
NIAB TAG’s Technical Commercial Director Bill Clark says: “It’s great news that someone of Andrew’s calibre and ability is joining NIAB TAG; our farmer members will benefit enormously from his experience, skills and knowledge. He will be a great asset, not only to our regional agronomy team and crop specialists, but to the whole organisation, in the development and communication of our agronomic direction and technical strategy.”
Andrew joins NIAB TAG from K+S UK and Eire Ltd, the UK’s leading potassium and magnesium fertiliser business, and has over 25 years experience across the agricultural trade sector and as an independent consultant. With a special interest in crop nutrition and legislative affairs he has held various positions on key industry bodies and government stakeholder groups. As chair of the Association of Independent Crop Consultants (AICC) Andrew led the creation of a national field trials programme and management team, and as a Rothamsted Research Association board member provided guidance on linking core research with on-farm advice.
He is looking forward to the opportunities that come with his new position. “NIAB TAG is unique in the UK in its capability to connect plant science with good agronomy to ensure that the benefits of research are realised on farm. My immediate focus is to ensure that members in the east continue to benefit from the wealth of technical information and advice that NIAB TAG has to offer. But this is also a great time to refresh our local activities and forge new links with growers across the region,” says Andrew Watson.
