IP Ag innovation Series: The Four Organizations Defining and Defending Intellectual Property

November 30, 2015

The IP Defenders

Around the world, four key frameworks are working together to define, protect and enforce intellectual property rights: The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, the World Trade Organization, the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants, and the World Intellectual Property Organization.

The foundations of these institutions can be found in the first modern IP treaties that were signed over 100 years ago and are still guiding their work today. These systems allow key stakeholders to collaborate with one another to ensure innovation is supported and IP is protected in all major markets. As a result, inventors are incentivized to create more products and processes that are valuable to society.

Read our Case Study on Global Intellectual Property Cooperation to learn more about these organizations, their members and their responsibilities.
