New university studies demonstrate that IPM programs with Regalia® provide excellent control of Bacterial Spot and Late Blight, two very difficult to control and serious diseases of Eastern tomatoes.

In Florida field trials, 1 quart of Regalia combined with low rates of copper controlled Bacterial Spot (Xanthomonas sp.) as well as high rates of copper, mancozeb, and chlorothalonil combined. Copper and mancozeb has been used to control bacterial spot for many years, but there is resistance to these active ingredients, and complete control cannot be obtained with these products. Adding Regalia to copper and mancozeb is proven to provide superior control of bacterial spot.

“Bacterial spot can be severe in the South Florida Fall tomato crop, and growers treat often to control this disease”, states David Warman, Director of Sales. “Regalia is a very flexible product, is rain-fast in one hour, has a short re-entry interval of only four hours, and may be used up to the day of harvest.”

Regalia is also proven to control Late Blight, so growers get a broad spectrum of disease control. A new university trial in 2010 shows that 1 quart of Regalia combined with low rates of copper and mancozeb controlled Late Blight (Phytophthora infestans) better than high rates of copper, mancozeb, and chlorothalonil. Disease pressure was severe in the trial, with 268 Late Blight lesions in untreated plots, but only 14 lesions in the Regalia, copper, mancozeb treated plots.

Because of it’s new and unique mode of action, Regalia is an excellent addition to resistance management programs. When treated with Regalia, the defense systems of crops are switched on to protect against attacking diseases. Research shows that plants treated with Regalia produce and accumulate elevated levels of specialized proteins and other compounds known to inhibit fungal and bacterial diseases.
