GRDC releases a Back Pocket Guide which highlights the various diseases of canola and how best to manage them

Australia
April 8, 2013

Canola can be affected by a number of diseases such as blackleg, which in extreme cases can cause yield losses exceeding 50 per cent.

Diseases of canola cause root rots, leaf diseases and crown to stem infections. The severity of infection depends on the susceptibility of the plant to disease, presence of the pathogen and climatic conditions.

The Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) has released a Back Pocket Guide which highlights the various diseases of canola and how best to manage them.

Control measures vary for each pathogen. If growers are aware of the disease risks in their area and follow a strategic management plan they should be able to adequately control most canola diseases.
