Protected Edibles growers get new HDC Crop Walkers’ Guide

United Kingdom
January 23, 2014

A new guide covering nutritional deficiencies and physiological disorders in protected edible crops has been produced by the Horticultural Development Company (HDC).

The 'Nutritional deficiencies and physiological disorders of tomato, cucumbers and peppers' Crop Walkers’ Guide (CWG), compiled by Derek Hargreaves, will support growers to identify symptoms of nutritional deficiency, compare crop nutritional analysis results and help them to identify and understand the causes of physiological disorders in protected edible crops.

The new Crop Walkers’ Guide complements the suite of HDC guides already available to the protected edibles sector but unlike other guides, provides nutrient ranges and values to be expected in UK grown crops as well as values for nutrient deficient crops.

HDC Knowledge Transfer Manager, Grace Choto said, “Growers of protected edibles will be pleased to note that they can now compare their laboratory crop nutritional analyses results to ranges given in this guide, which will help them to take corrective action ensuring the best qualitative and quantitative yield out of their crops.”

Hard copies of the CWG are free to HDC levy payers. If you require a copy please contact louise.arculus@hdc.ahdb.org.uk or 024 76478661
