New webcast explains big data, implications for farmers

St. Paul, Minnesota, USA
August 19, 2015

Big Data has become one of the most significant issues in agriculture today. On one hand, it can be a golden key to unlocking higher yields. On the other, that information can potentially be used against growers.

In a new Focus on Soybean webcast, published by the nonprofit Plant Management Network, John Fulton, Big Data expert and Professor of Agricultural Engineering at The Ohio State University, breaks down the current state of Big Data in agriculture and provides recommendations to row-crop producers and consultants as they consider data service options.

This 28-minute webcast, titled “Big Data and Implications at the Farm” covers:

  • Big Data and its uses for better decision making, such as hybrid selection
  • The capture of data to better understand the grower’s operation and costs
  • The importance of data quality
  • Considerations for those evaluating data service options

This webcast is open access through September 30, 2015. Viewers can also opt to see a 6-minute executive summary version of this presentation.  This shorter executive summary version is permanently open access courtesy of the United Soybean Board.
