Morgan Hill
October 1999Triathlon,
the newest broccoli from Sakata, is sure to benefit your program, whether you are a
grower, shipper or retailer. In the fall of 1996 and winter of 1997, Triathlon has "gone the distance" in many
large commercial trials.

In the desert production areas of California
and Arizona, Triathlon was superior to all
varieties in the mid-late season slots. In these trials, Triathlon demonstrated the
ability to be sold as a bunch, floret or crown item. In
addition, trials in both the Oxnard and Salinas areas have shown that Triathlon's strength are head and shoulders above the
competition.
With its excellent color, smooth, dome-shaped head and
overall uniformity, Triathlon is destined to be a
winner.
Triathlon's best
feature in nearly all trials, however, is its ability to yield far superior weight per
head than its competitors. |

Both growers and retailers should realize a 5-10% increase
in weight in a box of crown cut Triathlon versus
another variety grown side by side. This difference, when factored over many acres, will
be a real bonus not only to growers but also to retailers. |
