Fruit Logistica 2009 in Berlin: Food Chain Partnership a worldwide success Bayer CropScience strengthens international competitiveness of fruit and vegetable growers Board member Dr. Rüdiger Scheitza underlines the importance of innovation for sustainable agriculture

Bayer CropScience is showcasing a large number of successful partnerships with producers, exporters, importers and food wholesalers at this year's Fruit Logistica, which runs from February 4-6,
2009 in Berlin. "Our partners in the food industry appreciate the support they get from the specialists working in our company," says Dr. Rüdiger Scheitza, Member of the Board of Management of Bayer CropScience AG. "We are working together on successful solutions that enable the sustainable and environmentally compatible production of high-quality food."

Following constructive collaboration in Europe, Bayer CropScience was able to establish food chain partnerships all over the world last year, particularly in Latin and Central America. The company offers innovative crop protection solutions, technical expertise and comprehensive advice for farmers, helping them to secure harvests, increase yields and maintain quality.

This supports fruit and vegetable growers worldwide in their efforts to produce economically and market their goods internationally. "Integrated crop protection as part of a system of sustainable agriculture is vital if the industry is to fulfill consumers’ growing expectations in terms of food freshness and year round availability at affordable prices," Dr. Scheitza emphasizes.

This is the fourth time that Bayer CropScience has exhibited at Fruit Logistica, the world’s biggest trade fair for the international fresh produce trade. Experts from Bayer CropScience are available at stand C-14 in Hall 20 to provide more information about food chain partnerships.

Brazilian fruit with "even more" flavour

The "Flavour Guarantee" Programme in Brazil is an outstanding example of a successful cooperation. Bayer CropScience is working with the non-governmental organization HortiBrasil to support small farmers in Brazil in growing and marketing sweet grapes, melons and pineapples. More than 400 growers have joined the Flavour Guarantee Programme since it was launched in May 2007, and receive advice from Bayer CropScience on cultivation, marketing and obtaining the Flavour Guarantee certificate (Garantia do Sabor). Interest in produce grown under this program is so great at the central market in São Paulo that there are plans to expand it to include more types of fruit and growers. The Flavour Guarantee program also works with children in schools to teach them about healthy eating with sweet fruit.

The Flavour Guarantee Programme is the topic of a detailed presentation which Bayer CropScience is inviting interested fair visitors to attend at 2.00 p.m. on February 5, 2009 in the Exhibitor Forum.
