Dr. Seth Murray has joined
Texas AgriLife
Research to lead the corn-breeding program in College
Station, according agency officials.
Murray will oversee all aspects of corn breeding and research
activities headquartered in College Station. He comes to
AgriLife Research after leading plant breeding and genetic
research activities at Cornell University since 2001.
Maize breeding and genetics for crop improvement in Texas will
be the main focus of Murray’s research activities. He will also
investigate aflatoxin resistance, improved grain quality, and
heat and drought stress in corn.
“I’m looking forward to providing cutting-edge research that
will allow Texas producers to become more profitable and
ultimately, provide a high-quality product for the industry,”
Murray said.
“We’re extremely pleased to have Seth joining our research
faculty here in College Station,” said Dr. David Baltensperger,
department head of soil and crop sciences at Texas A&M
University. “He brings a lot of expertise on quantitative
genetic approaches to crop improvement to Texas, and we
anticipate many new discoveries to enhance corn production
throughout the state.”
Murray will also have a graduate teaching role funded in part by
the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M. His
course in theory and applied science in quantitative genetics
encourages students to apply modern scientific findings in
traditional field breeding. |
