MANA Crop Protection announces Direx® 4L inclusion in Roundup Ready PLUS cotton program

Raleigh, North Carolina, USA
January 20, 2012

MANA Crop Protection announces that Direx® 4L herbicide will be incentivized under the 2012 Roundup Ready PLUS™ Weed Management Solutions platform for Delta and Southeast cotton acres.

Direx 4L, a proven performer in controlling glyphosate-resistant Palmer amaranth (pigweed) and Marestail (horseweed) is one of the most widely used diuron products within the industry. Applied as a preplant, pre-emerge or post direct from six inch cotton to layby, Direx 4L provides up to three and a half weeks of residual control and is considered a gold standard for weed control reliability.

Used alone or in combination with other herbicides for season-long weed control, Direx 4L is recommended under the Roundup Ready PLUS program to combat Palmer amaranth (pigweed) and other weed species known for resistance issues specific to glyphosate.

$12 per acre incentive

Delta and Southeast cotton growers who use Direx 4L during the upcoming season will receive a $12 per gallon incentive (up to $3 per acre, per application) when used according to Roundup Ready PLUS guidelines.

Beyond Direx 4L, MANA Crop Protection residual herbicides - Cotoran® 4L and Cotton Pro® will also receive the same $12 per gallon grower incentive under the Roundup Ready PLUS® initiative. Cotoran is an excellent pre-emergence herbicide choice, given its broad spectrum control of grasses and broadleaves, while Cotton Pro can be used pre-emergence or post-direct to provide contact and residual control for later-germinating weeds. These products also deliver superior control of weeds known to have resistance to glyphosate including Palmer amaranth (pigweed).

“With a savings of $3 per acre per application, growers who use Direx 4L, Cotoran or Cotton Pro will get even more of a return on their herbicide investment from this decision,” says Dave Downing, Herbicide Product Leader with MANA Crop Protection.

“These products are a perfect fit for high-impact weed control systems and important considerations under the Roundup Ready PLUS platform which aid growers in reducing their annual costs in the war on weeds.”

MANA Crop Protection acquisition of Direx 4L

Earlier this year, Direx 4L and Karmex® DF herbicides were acquired by Makhteshim Agan Industries Ltd., the parent company of MANA Crop Protection, from DuPont Crop Protection. These popular herbicide brands are used throughout the U.S. on crops ranging from cotton and citrus to alfalfa, tree nuts and fruits to vegetables and grains.
According to Downing, the acquisition of Direx 4L and Karmex DF was an important step in the organization’s strategy to grow its U.S. crop protection business including its focus on glyphosate-resistance solutions.

As part of the global acquisition, Makhteshim Agan Industries received all rights, registrations, and supporting regulatory data, including trademark rights of the Direx and Karmex diuron assets, making MANA Crop Protection the major supplier for all non-mixture diuron formulations in the U.S.
