During the International Asparagus Demo day 2014 Bejo will present their new asparagus variety Cygnus.
“Maurice Deben, Representative Zuidoost Nederland, explains: “The new variety Cygnus is a mid-early and robust white variety that distinguishes itself by resistance to leaf diseases. The variety is suitable for the cultivation of white asparagus in Northern Europe. Cygnus has nice closed heads, characterized by its uniformity and is strong against hollow stem development. A great addition to our assortment.”
With the variety Cumulus Bejo has a foothold in the early cultivation of white asparagus. The breeding team at Bejo are not only developing standard varieties, but are also researching and breeding more novel and innovative varieties for growing asparagus. The very early variety Prius is expected to be introduced in 2015 in addition to new varieties of green and purple asparagus.
This year, the International Asparagus Demo day will take place in Tienray, The Netherlands at Martens family asparagus company on Tuesday June 24th from 13.00 till 19.00 hrs. Bejo are pleased to welcome visitors interested in this sector at the stand and will be on hand to discuss their extensive portfolio and exciting new varieties.
Presentatie van Bejo’s nieuwe ras Cygnus op de Internationale Asperge Demodag 2014
Tijdens de Internationale Asperge Demodag 2014 zal Bejo haar nieuwe aspergeras Cygnus presenteren.
“Maurice Deben, vertegenwoordiger Zuidoost Nederland, vertelt: “ Het nieuwe ras Cygnus is een middelvroeg en robuust wit ras dat zich onderscheidt door haar weerbaarheid tegen loofziekten. Het ras is geschikt voor de teelt van witte asperges in Noord-Europa. Het heeft mooie gesloten koppen, kenmerkt zich door haar uniformiteit en toont zich sterk tegen holle stengel ontwikkeling. Een prachtige aanvulling op ons assortiment.”
Met het ras Cumulus heeft Bejo al voet aan de grond in de vroege teelt van witte asperges. Het veredelingsteam van Bejo is volop in ontwikkeling met nieuwe rassen voor de aspergeteelt om zodoende ook haar ambities op het gebied van andere apergesegmenten waar te maken. Het zeer vroege ras Prius wordt naar verwachting in 2015 geïntroduceerd en ook in groene en paarse asperges zijn er nieuwkomers in aantocht.
De Internationale Asperge Demodag vindt dit jaar in Tienray plaats op het aspergebedrijf van de familie Martens op dinsdag 24 juni van 13:00 uur tot 19:00 uur. Bejo verwelkomt geïnteresseerden van harte op haar stand.
