Michigan Silage Expo 2014 draws hundreds - Dairy producers get latest news and data--in person and online--from experts at DuPont Pioneer

Des Moines, Iowa, USA
August 14, 2014

More than 300 dairy producers flocked to Berlyn Acres in Fowler, Michigan, today for the annual DuPont Pioneer-led Michigan Silage Expo. The expo offered dairy producers a chance to see corn silage research plots and to hear presentations from Pioneer silage-agronomy experts, as well as university and industry experts.

This year's presenters covered important topics in silage production, from the use of precision technology to more fundamental concepts, such as improving silage quality and rumen digestion. Elite grower panelists discussed the use of yield monitors in forage production, plus the benefits of high-forage, high-milk production diets. Dr. Normand St. Pierre, professor of dairy nutrition at The Ohio State University, shared his research on economic valuation of corn silage. Representatives from John Deere, New Holland and other companies conducted equipment demonstrations.

"This event is unique in the region and gives producers a chance to get up close and personal with our leading industry experts, along with seeing our test plots," said Dann Bolinger, dairy specialist, Pioneer. "In years like this, when corn prices are down and milk prices are up, understanding and taking advantage of the benefits of top-quality corn silage can make a real difference in a producer's bottom line, so we know they were eager to pick up as much information as they could at this event."

If you're a producer or industry professional who did not attend this year's expo, you can access materials at the Pioneer Silage Expo site. Immediately following the show, abstracts and background materials from the presentations were made available; photos and videos from the show will be placed online throughout the fall.

To learn more about Pioneer expertise and products for corn silage producers, visit the DuPont Pioneer Silage Zone, or talk to your local Pioneer representative.
