SeedWay supplies new cereal grains for expanding markets

Hall, New York, USA
July 9, 2015

John Uveges, SEEDWAY Northern Farm Seed Business Manager stated the demand for malting barley seed has grown in direct proportion to the rapidly expanding interest in micro-brewing in the Northeast.

In order to meet this expanding need, SEEDWAY will offer Newdale, Synergy, and Quest varieties for spring planting, as well as Wintmalt for late fall. In total, with normal production, the seed supply could have the potential to produce approximately 75,000 bushels of malting barley.

Uveges indicated that local seed production has already been planted for fall 2015 and spring 2016 production. Two new winter varieties, Scala from KWS and Typee from Syngenta are also currently being grown. These varieties have performed well in Cornell University and Penn State trials for both yield and malting qualities.

Jerry Davis, SEEDWAY Director of Agronomic Seed Production, indicates SEEDWAY will introduce and be the exclusive supplier of hybrid rye. Brasetto hybrid rye from KWS has been tested for 3 years in the mid-Atlantic and the northeast and has yielded the same or better than winter wheat. These new opportunities will give growers the ability to competitively produce rye and supply local milling, malting and distillery markets.

Headquartered in Hall, NY, SEEDWAY, LLC maintains locations in Trumansburg and Mecklenburg, NY, Shoreham, VT, Mifflinburg, Emmaus and Elizabethtown in PA, Pelham, GA and Lakeland, FL. A full-line seed company, marketing farm and turf seed in fourteen Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states and vegetable seed from the US Rocky Mountains to the east coast and in the southern provinces of Canada, SEEDWAY, LLC is a subsidiary of GROWMARK, Inc., Bloomington, IL.
