Two open days have been announced by the Processors and Growers Research Organisation (PGRO), offering vining pea and pulse growers the chance to see the sector’s latest trials and evaluation work first hand.
Farmers, agronomists, breeders, and other industry stakeholders will be welcomed to the Dyson Farming site in Nocton, Lincolnshire, for the events.
Vining pea work will be showcased on 15 June while combining pea and bean growers will be welcomed on 30 June.
“We really encourage pea and bean growers to come and see the work we’re doing on behalf of the industry, and share their experiences, challenges, successes with us,” says PGRO CEO Roger Vickers.
“We carry out a huge amount of work to gain a better understanding of pest and disease pressure, evaluate varieties, and explore new production techniques.
“These open days are a fantastic opportunity for growers to spend time with our technical team in the field and ask questions about our field work.”
Both open days shall be open for visitors from 10am until 3pm. Attendance is free.
Organised tours of the pulse plots will take place this year, as the peas and beans are being grown in different fields. On 30 June, dry pea tours will take place from 10-12.30, and bean tours will commence at 1pm.
The entrance to the Nocton site is the same for both open days. The What3Words is ///narrowest.parkway.drove to find the gateway.
