July 2019
On 23 July Sakata organised a Watermelon Field Day in Russia. We invited distributors from Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, Romania, Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan as well as Russian watermelon traders and supermarket chains to promote our watermelon range.
Forty varieties were showcased. They were divided into three main plots: commercial varieties (8 varieties), pre-commercial varieties (16 varieties) and new trends (16 varieties). A tasting area was included in the field tour. Seven main varieties were presented for tasting and attendees rated each one according to flesh colour, texture, taste and juiciness. Fire Ball F1 achieved the best score followed by Sensei F1 and El Wafi F1. Attendees particularly appreciated the taste and the juiciness of our varieties.
The feedback from our customers was very positive. They showed great interest at the field and during presentations asking many questions to the Product Manager, Breeder and local team. They were impressed by the diversity of our watermelon range and the quality of our varieties.
