Horizon Ag will hold its 2026 Arkansas Field Day on August 4 at the Northeast Rice Research and Extension Center, 15327 Highway 1, Harrisburg, AR 72432. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m., with the program running from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., followed by dinner and door prize drawings.
The program will include a breeding pipeline update from Dr. Maria Montiel, Horizon Ag's rice breeder, covering new Clearfield® varieties CLL20 and CLL21, an early look at Provisia® Rice System candidate PVJ01 and continued performance data on PVL06.
CLL20 is a variety that has a strong potential to raise the bar for field yields relative to other cultivars in the coastal areas of Louisiana and Texas. Furthermore, it has produced very high milling yields that are stable across many environments. This is much needed after multiple years of subpar rice milling that has substantially impacted the marketability of US rice to our long-standing export customers. CLL21, which will be launched in 2028, promises to give us yields that we’ve grown accustomed to with CLL18, but it does have the pita gene that confers resistance to a broad range of blast strains.
Peter Bachmann, President and CEO of the USA Rice Federation, will address the challenges and opportunities shaping the Southern aromatic rice market. Grower Hank Chaney will also share firsthand experience with the Provisia system, covering variety improvements across the Provisia portfolio and the importance of stewardship in protecting the technology.
