The PGRO/Syngenta Pulse Roadshows will get under way on 24 January in Shifnal to start the PGRO’s 2017 communications programme for growers, agronomists and the trade.
“This year’s Roadshows will continue our association with Syngenta to bring the latest research and agronomy advice - as well as an update on markets for 2017 - to all involved with the crop,” explains Roger Vickers, PGRO Chief Executive. “We start on 24 January and travel through the major growing regions during late January and in February.”

The Roadshows will have a focus on soils, and PGRO topics will highlight Stem nematode and the implications for the rotation; Foot rots in peas and beans with a closer focus on Aphanomyces in peas; Starter fertiliser and Rhizobia interactions; Row widths; and an Alternative view of margins.
There will be a technical update on the Syngenta legume portfolio and stewardship plus a guest presentation on Soil health, structure and pathogen activity from Ian Robertson of Glenside. Each venue will also feature a market update and perspective by a speaker from BEPA (British Edible Pulses Association).
The Roadshows are the annual launch of PGRO’s continuing programme to communicate the latest developments in the pulse crop. This also includes the new edition of the Pulse Magazine, the Vegetable Magazine, and the newly updated Pulse Agronomy Guide and Vining Pea Variety Guide. All of these are now available from PGRO, will be available at the Roadshows, and at events attended during 2017.
In addition, as PGRO continues to use new technology, the publications are available on the web site with the latest Pulse Magazine in an innovative e-publication ‘page turning’ version.
There is also the next PGRO course on Pea & Bean Crop Protection at PGRO HQ, Thornhaugh, Peterborough on 14 February. The one day specialist course will update agronomists, consultants, growers and crop managers involved in crop protection of peas for combining or vining and winter and spring field beans on major pests, diseases, disorders and weed control strategies.
